What If?
I Could Make A Difference for the Desperate
Hebrews 10:19-25

Who are the Desperate?
Physically Ill
Addicted
Mentally Ill
Relationally Dysfunctional

What if you could make a difference?
God has called you to it...

“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:4

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2

What can the Church do?
I. The Church Offers the Desperate Confidence in Christ
“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.”
Hebrews 10:19-22a

“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:14-16

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.”
1 Timothy 2:5-6

“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.”
Hebrews 7:25

II. The Church Offers the Desperate the Hope of Christ
“With our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:22b-23

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
1 Peter 1:3

III. The Church Offers the Desperate Encouragement toward Christ
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Hebrews 10:24-25

“Jesus calls us to love one another & not forsake the gathering. If we really love Jesus, we’re going to grow in love for his people.”
Trip Lee

“The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.”
Henry David Thoreau

“Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
Isaiah 55:6-7

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:10

What if??? What if I was different? What if Salem was different? What if we could do more than the bare minimum because the people who call Salem Church home did more than the bare minimum? What kind of difference could be made for the poor? The unreached? The vulnerable? The desperate?
