Pastor John Welborn
Have Yourself a MESSY Little Christmas
Give Love to Those Around You
John 3:16
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Hugh Martin & Ralph Blane
Have yourself a merry little Christmas, let your heart be light From now on your troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas, make the Yuletide gay From now on your troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore Faithful friends who are dear to us, gather near to us once more Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow, Hang a shining star upon the highest bough,
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

I. You Need the Love of God During Your Messy Christmas
“For God so loved the world...”
John 3:16a

Love Came Down at Christmas (1885) by Christina Rosetti
Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, Love Divine, Love was born at Christmas, Star and Angels gave the sign. Worship we the Godhead, Love Incarnate, Love Divine, Worship we our Jesus,
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
John 13:34
II. You Need the Gift of God During Your Messy Christmas
“...that he gave his only Son....”
John 3:16b
“You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving.”
Amy Carmichael (Missionary to India)
“Jesus is the greatest gift there is. That is a staple of Christian theology, not to mention Christmas cards. Yet as soon as we hear this statement, we’re apt to collapse it into a statement about some other gift, like salvation. Being given Jesus in our minds quickly morphs into being given forgiveness, or rescue, or eternal life. Jesus himself, the gift himself who perfectly embodies God’s generosity and goodness, gets bumped to the third page.”
Andrew Wilson
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son...”
Galatians 4:4
III. You Need the Life of God During Your Messy Christmas –
“...that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16c
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
John 5:24
By Giving Love to Those Around You, Your Messy Little Christmas can become more of a Merry Little Christmas because Jesus is at the center, and everything else becomes less important!
