Bread of Affliction Bitter Herbs & Fruit The Lamb

I. Jesus has Paid the Price for All of My Sin
“And as they were eating, he took bread, & after blessing it broke it & gave it to them, & said, ‘Take; this is my body.’ And he took a cup & when he had given thanks he gave it to them, & they all drank of it. And he said to them, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.’”
Mark 14:22-24

“Take, eat; this is my body...drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Matthew 26:26b, 27a-28

“This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me...This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood...”
Luke 22:19b, 20b

“This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me...This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
1 Corinthians 11:24b, 25b

“Jesus transformed the Passover into the Lord’s Supper & thereby signaled the transition from the old covenant to the new.”
John MacArthur

“The word translated ‘remembrance’ means much more than ‘in memory of,’ for you can do something in memory of a dead person – yet Jesus is alive. The word carries the idea of a present participation in a past event. Because Jesus is alive, as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, by faith we have communion with Him.”
Warren Wiersbe

“The simple message of the Lord’s Supper is this – because of the dying of His body & the shedding of His blood, a holy God can pass over your sins. That’s why today is a day of celebration. We did not come today to mourn someone who is dead. We have come to celebrate someone who is alive.” James Merritt

II. Jesus has Paid the Price for my Future Home
“Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’”
Mark 14:25

“Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters & like the sound of many peals of thunder, crying out, ‘Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice & exult & give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, & his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright & pure’ – for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, ‘Write this; Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ And he said to me, ‘These are the true words of God.’
Revelation 19:6-9

In the Lord’s Supper, We Proclaim The Following (Hughes):

Our Sins
Our Faith
Our Dependence
Our Hope

We Shouldn’t turn the Lord’s Supper into Mindless Tradition & We Shouldn’t take the Lord’s Supper in an Unworthy Manner

“Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body & the blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, & so eat of the bread & drink of the cup. For anyone who eats & drinks without discerning the body eats & drinks judgment on himself.”
1 Corinthians 11:27-29
