Follow Me…
Jesus Cares
Mark 6:30-44

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45

I. Jesus Cares that You Get Some Rest
“The apostles returned to Jesus & told him all that they had done & taught. And he said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves to a desolate place & rest a while.’ For many were coming & going, & they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves.”
Mark 6:30-32

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”
Psalm 23:1-3a

God’s Design for Rest:
·  Sabbath Weekly - Take a day off to rest every week.
·  Retreat Quarterly – Get away for a night a few times every year.
·  Vacation Annually – Take a week (or two) off every year.
·  Sabbatical Seasonally – Take 3-5 weeks off at once every 4-6 years.

“Come to me, all who labor & are heavy laden, & I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, & learn from me, for I am gentle & lowly in heart, & you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, & my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

II. Jesus Cares Enough to Lean Into Your Mess
“Now many saw them going & recognized them, & they ran there on foot from all the towns & got there ahead of them. When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, & he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.”
Mark 6:33-34

“To them, the crowds were a problem, perhaps even a nuisance, but to Jesus, they were as sheep without a shepherd.”
D.L. Moody

“I am the good shepherd…He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep…He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me.”
John 10:11a, 12a, 13-14

III. Jesus Cares About Getting You Involved
“And when it grew late, his disciples came to him & said, ‘This is a desolate place, & the hour is now late. Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside & villages & buy themselves something to eat.’ But he answered them, ‘You give them something to eat.’ And they said to him, ‘Shall we go & buy two hundred denarii worth of bread & give it to them to eat?’ And he said to them, ‘How many loaves do you have? Go & see.’ And when they had found out, they said, ‘Five, & two fish.’”
Mark 6:35-38

They had 4 problems:
· No Store to Buy Food
· No Money to Afford it
· No Time to Get it Here
· Not Enough for Everyone

“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’”
John 6:35

“Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever & ever. Amen.”
Hebrews 13:20-21

“We are God’s fellow workers.”
1 Corinthians 3:9

IV. Jesus Cares at a Level that will Blow Your Mind
“Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups, but hundreds & by fifties. And taking the five loaves & the two fish he looked up to heaven & said a blessing & broke the loaves & gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. And they all ate & were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces & of the fish. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.”
Mark 6:39-44

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church & in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever & ever. Amen”
Ephesians 3:20-21

“No one ever cared for me like Jesus; there’s no other friend so kind as He. No one else could take the sin & darkness from me; O how much he cared for me…All my life was full of sin when Jesus found me; all my heart was full of misery & woe, Jesus placed his strong arms about me & he led me in the way I ought to go…No one ever cared for me like Jesus.”
Charles Weigle (1932)
